Phillip A. Newmark教授简介
Dr. Phillip A. Newmark is the Burnell R. Roberts Chair in Regenerative Biology at the Morgridge Institute for Research, and a Professor of Integrative Biology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He is also an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, a position he has held since 2008.
Dr. Newmark obtained Ph.D. with Dr. Robert E. Boswell at the University of Colorado, Boulder, studying the molecular mechanisms underlying germ plasm assembly in Drosophila, focusing on the mago nashi gene. After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Newmark undertook postdoctoral training with Dr. Jaume Baguñà at the Universitat de Barcelona, where he began his work on planarian regeneration. He later continued his postdoctoral research with Dr. Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado at the Carnegie Institution of Washington, investigating the molecular basis of planarian regeneration, as a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Foundation Fellow. Since 2001, Dr. Newmark has held faculty positions at various institutions, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he advanced from Assistant to Full Professor. In 2016, he joined University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Dr. Newmark’s research focuses on the regenerative capabilities of planarians and parasitic flatworms, with a particular interest in germ cell development, regeneration, and stem cell biology. His lab has pioneered studies on stem cells in parasitic flatworms, contributing significantly to the field of regenerative biology. Since 2023, Dr. Newmark has been serving as the President-elect of the International Society for Regenerative Biology, and he remains actively involved in various scientific advisory and review boards.
